JobJitsu Product Philosophy
The gentle art of landing the job.
On-device. On-target. On your terms.
Why JobJitsu Exists
Job hunting is often sold as a grind: spray applications, chase algorithms, rent your data to another SaaS. JobJitsu rejects that model.
We believe the job hunt is a craft. Like jujitsu, it rewards technique over force — leverage over volume, timing over panic, calm redirection over blunt aggression. JobJitsu is the local AI black belt that helps you practice that craft without leaving your machine.
No cloud. No subscriptions. No shouting.
Your resume, preferences, and agent stay on-device. You stay in control.
Core Beliefs
1. Privacy is non-negotiable
Your career data is intimate. JobJitsu runs a local Agent with on-device intelligence. Nothing leaves the dojo unless you explicitly send it (an application, a follow-up email). Privacy is not a settings toggle — it is the architecture.
2. Mastery beats volume
Sending 200 generic applications is force. Tailoring ten with precision is technique. The product optimizes for quality of throw, not count of flails.
3. The agent serves; it does not own
Automation is a belt you wear, not a leash. The user sets preferences, approves high-stakes actions, and can pause anytime. Copy and UI must never imply the agent is in charge.
4. Calm confidence over urgency theater
Job search anxiety is real. We do not amplify it with countdown timers, red badges for everything, or “hurry up” language. Progress is surfaced gently. Reminders are polite. Wins are acknowledged without fireworks.
5. Open source, open trust
JobJitsu is open-source. Users can inspect how the agent works. Trust comes from transparency and local execution — not from a marketing claim.
6. Native, light, fast
This is a desktop tool, not a web dashboard pretending to be an OS. Interfaces should feel crisp, keyboard-friendly, and respectful of the user’s machine.
Product Principles (Decision Filters)
When prioritizing features or copy, ask:
| Question | Prefer |
|---|---|
| Does this keep data on-device by default? | Yes → ship; No → redesign |
| Does this increase leverage or just volume? | Leverage |
| Does this reduce anxiety or manufacture urgency? | Reduce anxiety |
| Does the user stay in control of send / apply / follow up? | Always |
| Would a black belt say this calmly? | If not, rewrite |
| Does dark-mode Midnight + teal still feel like JobJitsu? | Brand must hold |
The Metaphor Map
Martial-arts language is earned metaphor, not costume. Use it sparingly and precisely.
| Concept | JobJitsu meaning | Use in product |
|---|---|---|
| Dojo | The local machine / safe space | Status, privacy, loading (“No data leaves this dojo”) |
| Belt | Readiness, mastery, agent idle | Idle states, readiness |
| Throw | A well-aimed application | Success after send |
| Nudge | Follow-up | Reminders |
| Leverage | Technique over force | Marketing, philosophy |
| Black belt | Local AI capability | Brand voice, about screen |
Do not: turn every screen into a dojo theme park, use fighting slang, or imply combat against employers. Jujitsu here means gentle redirection — finding fit, not defeating people.

North Star Experience
A user opens JobJitsu. Midnight Ink. A teal accent. A quiet status: Agent · On-device. Their belt is tied. They set a preference, queue a few tailored applications, and get a polite follow-up reminder later. Nothing left the machine except what they chose to send.
That is the gentle art — practiced daily, owned entirely by them.
